New Developments in the History of WWI Science

Dr. Jeremiah James (Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft)

Drawing largely upon the American case, many historians of 20th-century science have focused on WWII as the turning point for military-industrial-academic relations. Only more recently have scholars turned their attention to the role of science, and particularly academic scientists, in the first world war. The new results to which this research has lead invite a broader and comparative approach to the research Fritz Haber and his colleagues performed during the WWI.
