Research Topic:
  Charge transport in metal/metal oxide composite catalysts under reaction conditions

The project focusses on the investigation of the kinetics and thermodynamics of charge transport and transfer and of the strong metal support interaction in catalytically active metal/metal oxide composite systems under reaction conditions, e.g. of Cu/ZnO catalysts used for the selective hydrogenation of CO/CO2 to methanol.

The project involves

  • the comprehensive characterization of high performance and model catalyst systems with in situ DC and microwave conductivity techniques, electron paramagnetic resonance, in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and in situ near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy and

  • the preparation of metal/metal oxide (model) catalysts, in close collaboration with the Nanostructures Group of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry.
